Crystal, Porcelain, Glass, 2002

Crystal, Porcelain, Glass isolates a simple gesture within a particular moment in time. Working with models and studio lighting, I photographed a variety of hands in various positions while holding fragments of broken objects. This work includes three suites; the first is a series of seventeen oval images of hands holding broken pieces of once-functional objects. The second is a series of seven images of one person's hands struggling to cradle all of the pieces of a large broken objects. The third suite is a series of images of teacups that have been broken, repaired and stacked in what appears to be a fragile tower.
