Lives of Girls and Women, 1990
This work examines gender stereotypes and how they are imposed by societal structures and pressures which are ultimately expressed through popular media. Interviewing women of various ages about their memories, conflicts and aspirations, I then wrote fictional composites of these conversations incorporating a style similar to that of product advertising from women's magazines. I chose to use Barbie doll clothing as "fashion backdrops" for these quotes as historically the marketing of Barbie has been based upon, and reflects, the influence of changing trends in young women's lifestyles.
These works are 4 color two plate etchings on BFK paper, 22"x15" each.
