Sign Sign Everywhere a Sign is a short-term site work. With a nod to Dr. Seuss and the Canadian rock group Five Man Electrical Band, this immersive work is intended to be playful. When the viewer follows the paths in this birch grove on the Ward's Island Beach, the signs become a point of focus and a moment of pause, a visual language, a mapping or way-finding as we move through the landscape. For Rouge Wave 2018 artists' installations on Toronto Island. This work was made with Alexa Hickox and assisted by Aaron Moore.
The Toronto Islands have a rich cultural history beginning with the indigenous peoples, for whom the Island had spiritual and hunting importance. I would like to acknowledge that this work was created on the traditional territories of the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishinaabe, the Chippewa, and the Haudenosaunee. I would like to thank the Huron-Wendat for sharing these Islands, known as Mnisiing, where I live and work.
