Demarcations is an ongoing indexical work of singular markings made on trees that I have been photographing for the past fifteen years.  With this work I explore our relationship and our interventions within the natural environment. These markings are out attempts to make order within so-called “wild spaces”, giving access to places unseen and creating vantage points from which to view nature. The photographs were taken in parks and on private trails throughout Ontario, Quebec, and the northern United States. The marks I photograph include trail blazes, signage, beaver cuttings, marks placed for the culling of trees, and other evidence of interaction with natural elements. The prints are 20" x 24", edition of three, and include both single images and grids, various sizes.
