Ritual: Images of kettles, dating back 150 years, vessels familiar as utensils yet very different in how they were manufactured. Some have been hand hammered and welded; some industrially produced. Brought from Finland and Sweden by two branches of the same family, each kettle varies in size and design. Many are marked by fire, scratched and bruised from being dropped over the course of many years, many meals and thousands of cups of coffee. The social history of migration of the women and families who used the kettles is etched in the copper. There is a fascinating grammar to tools and utensils which is represented in almost every  community in their own cultural artifacts. Archival digital prints, 20" x 24", edition of seven, 2007.
