Lives of Girls and Women: This early work examines gender stereotypes and how these were imposed by societal structures and pressures and ultimately expressed through popular media. Using interviews with women of various ages about their memories, conflicts and aspirations, I wrote fictional composites of these conversations. I rewrote these histories, incorporating a style similar to that of product advertising from women's magazines. I chose to use Barbie doll clothing as "fashion backdrops" for these quotes as, historically, the marketing of Barbie has been based upon, and reflected, the influence of changing trends in young women's lifestyles. These works consist of four colour two-plate etchings on BFK paper, 22" x 15", limited availability.
