Park Workers was installed in 2013 after city workers went on strike and were locked out and not able to work for six weeks. I wanted to call attention to the people who make positive change in our environment and improve life for everyone. Documented are the Island park workers, some having worked in the park for thirty years, largely unseen, who transform the park. To me they are the unsung heroes who have made a life commitment to the land, investing themselves physically, emotionally and at times spiritually to the environment they nurture. Park Workers includes over 90 portraits. Thirty of the images were reproduced as life-size portraits in an outdoor installation on four buildings on Toronto Island. Installation scale cropped to 35" x 77", chromogenic prints, 30" x 40" editions of five, 2010-2013.
